So I've never really followed open wheel to much but how long ago did they actually stop using a traditional gearbox/shifter? Was sick seeing them have one hand on the wheel rowing gears with the other at those speeds.

Not sure when it was officially gone but sometime in the late 80s to very, very, very early 90s it had been phased out, I would think.
